Recap: Warriors 109, Bobcats 118- Bad Karma + The Trade Year 1 (so far)

Tonight's Leastern Conference opponent sported a .350 winning record (or .650 losing record if you want to look at it that way), were without one of their best players, and were down by 13 after the first quarter in their own building. Well anything can happen in this league and that's why you play a full 48 minutes.

Herald Celtics game heads south with defeat in Atlanta
Time runs out on Celtics in Atlanta
FL's Take: The shot clocks being off definitely hurt the Celtics more than the Hawks. The PA guy did seem to have 2 different watches for counting off the last 10 seconds. Also, the Celtics use the shot clock and move the ball to find the open man. Many times their shots come as the shot clock is winding down as they look for the best shot possible. The Hawks on the other hand took most of their shots before 15 seconds went by on the shot clock. The game was tied at the half and the Celtics typically come out strong in the 3rd, but with the delay and then not having the shot clocks, the Celtics ended the 3rd down 10. Then, with about 6 to go in the 4th, the shot clocks mysteriously started again and the Celtics started to come back. In my opinion, the Hawks should be fined and if that happens again, the Celtics should refuse to play until they are fixed. That was ridiculous and clearly favored the home team. Reminds me of some of the things Red used to get away with.

Still Plenty to Play For

While it may seem like the Celtics don't have anything left to play for, a second look tells us that they have plenty to play for over their last 9 games. Several of these teams are possible first round matchups for the Celtics and they need to send the message that they are in control and not give any questions as to whether the Celtics can be beaten.  read more »

First up is Chicago who are in the 10th spot and 4.5 games back of the 8th spot. It is possible for them to make it if the other teams have a collapse and they win all of their games so, they will be trying to do their part and beat teams like the Celtics who may be letting up as they look forward to the playoffs. But, it would be a mistake for the Celtics to lose to a team they may face in the first round of the playoffs.

Nuggets vs. Wizards: Game 49 Preview

(Boulder-CO) With Caron Butler, All-Star, questionable tonight after missing four of the last six games with a hip flexor injury the Nuggets should be able to assist Washington lose their sixth straight game- a season-high skid. Plus, the Nuggets need to start a new winning streak at Pepsi Center after losing to the Jazz in overtime (cringe) on Wednesday night. The Nuggets are a stout 20-6 at home so far this year while the Wizards are only 9-13 on the road.  read more »

Do the Celtics Have Another Gear?

All season long we have read that there was a playoff atmosphere in many of the Celtics games this season. The Celtics seemed to be playing all out all season long. We only had a couple of let ups during the season. One was those 3 games right after the All Star game when KG was just coming back from his injury. Another was the back to back losses to the Wizards. And a third was the loss to the Bobcats. Now the playoffs are here and the action is going to ratchet up a notch. Do the Celtics have yet another gear that they can take their game to for the playoffs? Or do they really need one?

Nuggets Band Together for Eighth Straight

(Boulder-CO) Marcus Camby and Eduardo Najera were game-time decisions that didnt suit up for the Bobcats, but worry not, Nuggets Nation, because the rest of the Nuggets banded together to avoid breaking their home winning streak. Steven Hunter started in the place of the precautious Marcus Camby (sore knee) and Eduardo Najeras (sore rib) bench spark was filled by the ever fiery Linas Kleiza as the Nuggets won their eighth straight home game against the Bobcats, 117-101. In the first half, the Nuggets were trailing the Cats by ten after the first 24 minutes conclusion.  read more »

Hornets Leave the Stinger in Nuggets

(Boulder-CO) Tonights, 117-93, loss made me realize the Denver Nuggets are at a crossroads. This season can go two different directions at this precise juncture. Veer one way and the Nuggets have all the excuses they need to slide out of the playoff picture. Veer another and they could choose to make this year a springboard for bigger and better things to come in the future. Either way, the Hornets proved to me that they are indeed, For real by trouncing the Nuggets right from the word go. In the first half, Denver was absolutely exploited by the crisper New Orleans Hornets. Chris Paul was slicing the Nuggets interior defense to ribbons and finished the first half with eight points, nine assists, and six rebounds.  read more »

You never know what you'll get with this team. One night they're knocking off the best team in the league, the next night they're getting blown out by a team struggling to make the playoffs in the East. They seem to bring it against the top teams but take nights off against the bad teams.

In any other year, being 11 games over .500 would easily put the Warriors in the playoffs and taking a night off wouldn't hurt that much - plus I'd be ecstatic and not fearful of missing the playoffs. Losing a game to the Hawks wouldn't generate as much criticism and worry. But this year is different. Every single game counts when 9 excellent teams battle for 8 spots. Even though Houston might be done with Yao out for the season, you can't take anything for granted. I wouldn't guarantee a Warriors playoff berth because Portland could roll off another 13 in a row or TMac steps his game up to MVP levels. Basically, any game the Warriors lose that they should have won will be magnified 100x if they miss the playoffs by 1 game.  read more »
