Herald Celtics earn benchmark win vs Western force
FL's Take: The Celtics faced one of the West's top teams and came out on top. They still to face the Spurs, Suns and Hornets but so far have passed every test. This win without KG was really big. The bench is really coming together and Rondo is playing the best basketball of his career.

Blown out in Dallas

The Mavericks handed the Pistons their second straight loss, and they did convincingly. Dallas, led by Dirk Nowitzki, had this one right from the start. The closest this one got was when the Pistons went into halftime down by just five points. That's about as good as it got for Detroit who tried to play catch up all night.

The final score of the thrashing 102-86.

Attendance is no longer an issue

On December 5th last, I attended my first Hornets game. The Detroit Pistons, one of the top-tier teams in the NBA the last half decade, were in town on a Wednesday night and just over 10,000 people showed up to see them take on the home team. There wasn't much noise when the Hornets raced out to an early 15-point lead, and the Pistons fought back to win, 91-76.

It was a frequent occurrence early in the season; few fans showing up to see the Hornets battle the cream of the NBA. There was a Friday night showdown with the defending champion Spurs in November, when the Arena was 2,000 bodies shy of a sellout. Only 12,223 were on hand to witness the Hornets put an end to their 21-game losing streak against the Mavericks on a Saturday evening in early November, when Peja Stojakovic nailed a triple with 2.9 seconds remaining to force overtime. Two weeks later, the fantastic-to-watch Phoenix Suns were in town, and just 13,705 saw Chris Paul drop a 20-10 on Steve Nash and lead the Hornets to a three-point victory.  read more »

Kobe has 35 as Lakers top Mavs, now 13-1 (AP)

Dallas Mavericks forward Dirk Nowitzki (41), of Germany, puts up a shot as Los Angeles Lakers guard Kobe Bryant (24) defends during the second half of an NBA basketball game, Friday, Nov. 28, 2008, in Los Angeles. The Lakers won 114-107.

With every game the Los Angeles Lakers play, one nagging question keeps cropping up: How did they lose to the Detroit Pistons -- at home? Kobe Bryant scored a season-high 35 points, and the Lakers used a 17-0 run in the second half Friday night to beat the Dallas Mavericks 114-107 and improve the NBA's best record to 13-1.  read more »
